Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), can affect trekkers who ascend to higher elevations too quickly. During the Mardi Himal Trek, the risk increases as you climb above 2,500 meters, especially near High Camp and Mardi Himal Viewpoint.
At Manikang Nepal Treks, your safety is our highest priority. Our experienced guides monitor trekkers for early signs of altitude sickness and encourage a gradual pace, regular hydration, and sufficient rest. Following your guide's advice greatly reduces the risk of altitude-related illness.
Common symptoms of altitude sickness include:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea or loss of appetite
- Fatigue
- Difficulty sleeping
- Shortness of breath
How to reduce the risk:
- Ascend gradually and avoid rushing.
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- Eat nutritious meals throughout the trek.
- Avoid excessive alcohol and smoking.
- Inform your guide immediately if you experience any symptoms.
If symptoms become severe, descending to a lower altitude is the safest and most effective treatment. With proper preparation and guidance, most trekkers complete the Mardi Himal Trek safely and enjoy an unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
