Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek

Duration: 2 Nights 3 Days

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek navigates in the off-beat trails in eastern Nepal offering a delightful panorama of Kanchenjunga and Januu ranges. The trek makes its way along with the southern skirts of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area while introducing the bio-diversity of the region as well. As the treks in this region do not see a large influx of travelers, the trails are still virgin and are used only for local trading. This further glorifies the charm and allure of the region for those who desire to explore Nepal and its pristine environs.

The Kanchenjunga lies in northeast Nepal, sharing the border with Sikkim, India. As such, you take a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar followed by another one to Suketar. As the trek takes shape into a mesmerizing journey, you head to Khesewa passing Lalikharka and Tembewa on the way. Further heading into the thick of the action, you make brief entrances in the rai and Limbu villages along the way. Passing Phungphung, you trek alongside the Kabeli River towards Tortong. As steep ascents introduce themselves, you will find yourself in the company of the bio-diversity in the Kanchenjunga region. The trail gently stretches along the border of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area to reach Ramche. Heading further east, you arrive at Tseram alongside the company of Yalung Glacier. As you aim to reach the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, you come across one of the most esteemed monasteries in the region, Oktang Monastery. After a brief exploration, you make way to the base camp. At the base camp, Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Januu Himal (7,711m), Kabru (7,412m) and numerous other peaks are visible. Like the trail, the base camp is also rarely visited; thus, it oozes of wilderness and unspoiled beauty. Thereon, you entirely retrace your steps to arrive back to Suketar.
