Makalu Base Camp Trek.

  • Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m).

    Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will warmly welcome you and immediately transfer you to your respective hotel. At the evening, you can stroll around the valley or return to your hotel as you see fit. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

  • Day 2 Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar then drivt,e to Chichila (1,980m) 50 mins fligh 3-4 hrs’ drive.

    On the second day, you will fly to Tumlingtar from the capital. It is a 50-minute flight that offers views of Himalayas from Langtang and Everest to the Makalu Himal ranges. After resting at Tumlingtar for a short while, you will take a drive to Chichila. The drive will take you through the forested area and terraced farmlands. Chichila is a small village where you can find a major settlement of the Rai community. Overnight stay at Chichila.

  • Day 3 Trek from Chichila to Num (1,560m): 6-7 hrs.

    Today is the first day of our trek. After breakfast, you will continue your walk towards Num. Enjoying a distant view of Makalu (8,463m) and other snow-capped mountains; you will gradually ascend through hilly trails crossing the forest of pine and oak tree. Springtime trekking gives you a pleasant view of blooming rhododendron. Walking past few suspension bridges and beautiful waterfalls, you will finally Num. Overnight stay at Num.

  • Day 4 Trek from Num to Seduwa (1,500m): 6-7 hrs.

    On the 4th day, you will start your trek towards the village of Seduwa. In the early hours, you will walk alongside the green forest, which eventually takes you to the fast-flowing Barun River. After a steep ascent to the top of the ridge crossing wooden bridge, you will reach Makalu Barun Conservation Area. Once the permits and registration process are taken care of, you will march forward enjoying the lush vegetation and natural flora and fauna of this region. Finally, you will reach the Seduwa perched on the hilltop. Overnight stay at Seduwa.

  • Day 5 Trek from Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,100m): 4-5 hrs.

    You will start your trek with a steep ascent to the top of the ridge. The trail to the ridge is bounded by Isuwa Khola to the west and Kasuwa Khola to the east. Crossing suspension bridge over Isuwa Khola, you will walk past several hamlets and forested area of pine and rhododendron. Along the way, you can see wide farmlands and small settlements. After gradual ascents, you arrive at the village of Tashigaon. Overnight stay at Tashigaon.

  • Day 6 Trek from Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3,500m): 6-7 hrs.

    After breakfast, you will continue your walk ascending through the dense forest of fir and rhododendron passing yak herders and grazing cattle. Moving forward, the trail gets even steeper as you reach Unshisa Kharka. Following the rough stone stairs and small river streams, you will finally reach Khongma Danda. From here, you can observe panoramic views of Makalu Himalayas. Overnight stay at Khongma Danda.

  • Day 7 Acclimatization Day.

    Today is the much-needed rest day, as you will get an opportunity to adjust with the increasing altitude. You can roam around the village, interact with people and get familiar with a unique and tradition of the ethnic Sherpa people. You can also visit some monasteries and hike around the region. A photograph session would be an ideal choice around the surrounding hills. Overnight stay at Khongma Danda.

  • Day 8 Trek from Khongma Danda to Dobate: 6-7 hrs.

    Early in the morning, you will continue your journey towards Dobate. The trail is difficult, as you will pass four passes. In the early first hour, you will take a steep ascent to Keke La Pass (4,127m) after crossing Kauma La Pass (3,603m). From here, you will again climb to the top of the ridge and reach Shipton La Pass at 4170m, where the deep blue water of Kalo Pokhari Lake will mesmerize you. Finally, crossing Tutu La Pass (4,080m) and enjoying a stunning view of Chamlang (7,319m), Peak 6 (6,524m), Peak 7 (6,758m), and other snow-capped mountains, you will reach your destination. Overnight stay at Dobate.

  • Day 9 Trek from Dobate to Yangri Kharka (3,557m): 6-7 hrs.

    Following the Barun River upstream, you will start your trek through steep and narrow paths. Along the way, you will see yak grazing in the fields. Walking past the dense forest of blooming rhododendron, you will come across large pasturelands and terraces. The human settlements become sparse as you head higher and the pristine nature will completely envelop the trails. Overnight stay at Yangri Kharka.

  • Day 10 Trek from Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka: (4,410m): 5-6 hrs.

    Langmale Kharka is the last settlement before reaching Makalu Base Camp. The stunningly revealed Himalayas at the background make your walk more pleasant as you will cross few wooden bridges and beautiful waterfalls along the way. Once at Merek, you will have and continue the trek. Walking past several small villages and moraines, you reach Langmale Kharka. Overnight stay at Langmale Kharka.

  • Day 11 Trek from Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp: (4,870m): 6-7 hrs.

    Today you will be trekking towards Makalu Base Camp at (4,870m). Along with an enchanting view of Mt. Makalu (8,463m), you will gradually climb on steep glacial moraines, which takes you to Shershon. As you move forward, the rocky trails and challenging climbs make your walk more challenging. A six-hour walk on difficult trails finally takes you to majestic Makalu Base Camp from where you will get a glorious view of several snow-capped mountains including Mt. Everest (8,848m) and Mt. Makalu (8,463m). Overnight stay at base camp.

  • Day 12 Explore Makalu Base Camp.

    Today you will explore around Makalu Base Camp. From here, you can get a close-up view of Mt. Makalu (8,485m), Mt. Everest (8,848m), and Lhotse (8,516m) alongside countless other Himalayas. You can also take a short trip around surrounding glaciers and lakes. A short hike to the tranquil Barun Pokhari is another option to spend the day. The viewpoint of Barun Valley is simply breathtaking. In the evening, you can celebrate your accomplishment with fellow members. Overnight stay at Makalu Base Camp.

  • Day 13 Trek from Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka: 6-7 hrs.

    Bidding farewell to the Himalayas, you will start your descent towards Yangri Kharka. The trail takes you through scattered forests of juniper and rhododendron and rocky paths. Passing the settlement of Langmale Kharka, you will now descend towards Merek crossing large farmlands. The journey is quite adventurous, as the greenery and natural flora and fauna of this region will accompany you throughout the way. Overnight stay at Yangri Kharka.

  • Day 14 Trek from Yangri Kharka to Dobate: 6-7 hrs.

    Following the Barun River down the valley, you will continue your journey towards Dobate. The trail gives the pleasure of experiencing the lush vegetation and biodiversity of this region. As you move forward, you will be amazed by the stunning landscapes and terraced farmlands. Crossing the rocky rides, you will finally reach Dobate. Overnight stay at Dobate.

  • Day 15 Trek from Dobate to Khongma Danda: 5-6 hrs.

    Early in the morning, you will be trekking towards Khongma Danda. Starting from Tutu La Pass (4,080m), you will take a steep climb to the top of the ridge and reach Shipton La Pass (4,170m). You will end your trek crossing Kauma La Pass (3,603m) via Keke La Pass (4,127m). The day involves a lot of uphill climbs and steep descents; so, tread carefully on such terrains. Overnight stay at Khongma Danda.

  • Day 16 Trek from Khongma Danda to Tashigaon: 4-5 hrs.

    On the 16th day, you will start your trek towards Tashigaon. The five-hour journey takes you through the forest of pine and oak exiting the Makalu Barun National Park. Walking past suspension bridges over small rivers, you will finally reach the stunning Sherpa village of Tashigaon. Overnight stay at Tashigaon.

  • Day 17 Trek from Tashigaon to Seduwa: 4-5 hrs.

    Crossing several river streams, you will begin your journey towards Seduwa village. Accompanied by Isuwa Khola on one side and Hingsa Khola on the other side, you will gradually descend down to Barun Khola. The trail takes you through sloppy landscapes and narrow stone paths. Passing Murmidanda on the way, you make multiple ascents and descents to reach Seduwa. Overnight stay at Seduwa.

  • Day 18 Trek from Seduwa to Num: 5-6 hrs.

    Soon after breakfast, you will continue your descent following back the same trail. Alongside the bank of Arun River, you will walk towards Makalu Barun Conservation Area. Along the way, you will also walk past forests filled with rhododendron and oak. Finally, you will reach Num villages passing through the several Sherpa hamlets. Overnight stay at Num.

  • Day 19 Trek from Num to Tumlingtar: 6-7 hrs.

    Today is the last day of your trek. Early in the morning, you will start your journey towards Tumlingtar. Bidding farewell to the Himalayas, you will slowly descend to the settlement of Chichila. Along the way, you will walk past farmlands and forested area of the pine tree. Trekking along the Arun River, you head to Tumlingtar. Overnight stay at Tumlingtar.

  • Day 20 Tumlingtar to Kathmandu: 50 mins flight.

    From Tumlingtar, you will take a flight back to the capital. It is a 50mins flight above the green hills and mountains. You will arrive at Kathmandu for lunch. During the daytime, you can go for sightseeing to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the evening, you can roam around the Thamel area, buy a souvenir and enjoy its nightlife. Overnight stay at the guesthouse in Kathmandu.

  • Day 21 Final Departure from Kathmandu.

    Today is your final day in Nepal. We will drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport two hours prior to your scheduled flight. You can also share your experience with us on the way to the airport. Goodbye.
